Birth of a Blog

Today marks the one year blogaversary (or is it blogoversary? Or blogiversary?) of …life’s about a dream.

What started as a virtual scrapbook or baby book, evolved into quite a creative outlet.

I have ‘met’ so many people (check the blogroll that DESPERATELY needs to be updated).

I have reconnected with my ΑΧΩ sisters from Clemson and discovered several readers are sisters, too!

I am able keep tabs on family members and ‘real life’ friends.

McMommy had a post on the “birth story” of her blog.  This was a perfect way for me to educate you in how all of this came about on my anniversary day.

So here are the ins and outs.

Last year around Christmastime, BP was doing computer stuff with a coworker here at the house for several days in a row.  During a break, the coworker told me his wife had a blog.

A what??

HyperactiveLu was the first blog I ever read.   Through hers, I started reading others.  Then, one Saturday morning, BP came to me and said, “I set a blog up for you.  It should be much easier than the website we have.”  Whah-lah.  A blog was born.

The title …life’s about a dream came from Frick.  He was actually singing the song, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and instead of singing, “life is but a dream” he sang, “life’s about a dream”.  We thought that was pretty profound, especially coming from a three year old (at the time).  And, it is what it is.  Our life is a dream.  Well, some days.  🙂

BP’s name is derived from his initials.  It’s also short for Big Papa.  It’s taken from the song Big Papa by Biggie Smalls. This name is actually what our friends began calling him after I became pregnant with our second child when Frick was just 6 months old.  What a stud.  (There you go, Cassie. I finally came out with the story.)

Frick and Frack are nicknames for our sweet children.  I used to teach part time in the public schools, job sharing a classroom with another girl.  She and I would joke around, calling ourselves Frick and Frack.  I thought it was clever and started calling the boys Frick and Frack around the house.  But we also call them Chaos and Havoc (because they prefer wrestling as an after school activity) and The Farmers (because they are up with the sun each morning).  But then, Uncle B tried to get me to change their blog names to Fred and Barney.  Click HERE for that reasoning.  Alas, Frick and Frack remain.

The Money Pit is our house.  We started a major renovation process here in May 2008.  In true renovation fashion, our budget tripled as they began to chip away at our house.  The Fix It Guys kept uncovering all kinds of damage.  And our bill kept growing.  Hence, The Money Pit.  Like the movie.  Only better.

Dreamers refers to you, my loyal readers of …life’s about a dream.   As I said above, this is a virtual scrapbook for my children and our memories.  But when I see that others are reading and commenting here on the blog or through emails, I know my words are not just for us.  And that’s flattering.  Thank you for reading.  And commenting.

So….what’s your blog’s story??

Happy blogoversary! I started blogging in private to my family but opened it up in late August. Going public was like jumping off a beach cliff into the great big blue. My friend told me to just go for it b/c I wasn’t sure how I was going to be received but I took the leap. It’s been a fun ride and I’ve “met” so many wonderful interpeeps.

    Happy Blogaversary!!

I might steal your idea because mine is coming up too! What a cool idea!!

We started thepaulinegoatranchers because Sam was going to China this summer and we wanted to keep up with the family and they keep up with him!

Our name comes from where we live and we love goats and eventually will have some, and it was Sams fantasy football name, lol!

    So there ya go!!!

Oh yay! Happy Blogaversary {or however it’s spelled}!!!

I started my blog in December of 2006. I’ve always used it as a quasi journal of sorts, but a huge part of it was so my sister that lives out of state had a way of “keeping tabs”.

And it’s come a looong way since then. A few blog face lifts {and probably more to come since I like changing things up often} and so many great blogging friends later! I love how it has evolved, but still keeping the same purpose {or lack of}: it’s all my random thoughts and little bits of life.

Happy Blogaversary! That is great — to blog for one year! I loved reading how it came to be. It is always fun to hear how people came upon blogging, and I feel like I got to know you better. I’m sure you never expected the blogging experience to grow as much as it did, I bet! But in such a good way!

Happy Blogaversary!!!! I started mine a year and a half ago, as means of communicating pictures and stories to my family. Now my family never checks in but my friends do as well as others I have met and befriended over the blogasphere!!! And some of us have the same passion for terrible 80s music! 😉

Happy Blogaversary! So, I may not get to go to Charleston for the reunion this weekend — Brad will probably be up all night doing frost protection and won’t be able to keep the kids — so keep your fingers crossed that my mom can keep them!

Oh happy blogiversary -oversary & -aversary!

It is great to find out the story behind your blog. Mine doesn’t have much of a story other than I was a blog stocker for the longest time and refused to start my own because I thought they were only for Mommies and I definately wasn’t one of those.

But after seeing a lot of other non-mommy blogs, I gave in. And I’m glad I did! It’s way fun!

You know, I am just now reading this and had to laugh. My one year blogiversary is January 8th, 2008. I always thought that you had been blogging for years and years longer than me. Ha! You were one of my first readers and I always always appreciated that. Happy blogiversary kinda late!! 🙂
