Raising Parents on Facebook

Let’s face it.  Technology rocks.   My mom (Nini) joined Facebook.  I noticed her online the other night.  I tried to ‘chat’ with her.  When I first entered text, I knew she would be dumbfounded as to how it works.  Here is our conversation:

MOM! How the heck are ya?

(pause for a couple of minutes)

just type and press enter

10:49pm Nini

where are you?

10:49pm Mandy

10:49pm Nini

what are we doing?

10:50pm Mandy

chatting online

welcome to technology

10:50pm Nini

how did this happen

10:51pm Mandy

i saw you were online…look down at the bottom right side where it says “online friends” and then a number in parenthesis

click on it and you will see who is on FB right now

click their name and one of these boxes will appear so you can chat with them

10:51pm Nini

i didn’t know we were on-line friends

10:52pm Mandy

once you confirm a friendship on FB, you have the ability to become online friends

10:52pm Nini

sally* and susie* are on line? does that mean they can see we’re on line?

10:52pm Mandy

10:52pm Nini

this is sick

10:53pm Mandy

10:53pm Nini

I’m too private

10:53pm Mandy

well then get off FB

10:54pm Nini

is that a request or a demand

10:54pm Mandy

ha ha

just a statement.

10:54pm Nini

good night

10:54pm Mandy

good night. Love you mom.

Make sure she knows she can turn her chat function “off” so that people don’t know when she’s online! Her private self would probably prefer it that way. 🙂

LOL! Crack me up!! that’s too funny! I tried Video chatting with my parents for the 1st time last night, it definitely was fun trying to explain to them how to do it! I love trying to explain technology to non-tech people, it’s so funny!

Ha Ha, that’s funny. My mom can only check my blog because I saved it as her home page. She would never be able to figure out facebook.

This is great! My grandmother uses yahoo chat sometimes and our conversations are hilarious sometimes because she just does not get the technology part — I love it! At least they are trying!
