Teeth-Capades

**My mom tells us the funniest memories of my grandparents. She shared this with me and I thought it was worthy of posting.  Thanks Nini!!**

Nini (my Mom) took care of Granny and Pap Pap for at least 13 years, either while they lived with us, in their senior citizen apartment, or at a nursing home.

Granny was hospitalized one year during the Christmas season and Pap Pap and Mom were taking things home, as Granny was to be discharged the next day. They collected her magazines, papers, phone list, and numerous plants and get well cards.

Pap Pap was in his 80’s and had a mild form of dementia but he still wanted to be helpful. He grabbed the biggest plant, a poinsettia, and insisted he could handle it.

Off they go down the elevator, through the lobby and into the automatic revolving door. Pap Pap shuffled, confused by the door’s movement.   The door abruptly stopped and his head hit the glass. Alarms went off, people came running and Pap Pap was mortified.

They helped him into the passenger side of the car, loaded the stuff and they were on their way.

As they are pulling into the driveway,

Pap Pap: I don’t want to cause a problem but I should tell you that I  think I lost my upper denture when my head hit the door.

Mom: What do you mean, you think?

Pap Pap: Well, I don’t have them and they were in when we visited Granny.

He was very upset; so Mom assured him they would be found or they’d just get a new set.

(What had they saved their money for, if not times like this!)

She called the hospital asking if anyone had turned in a set of upper teeth after the revolving door incident. They replied “negative” but giggled and thanked her for making their day.

Mom was all set to phone the dentist, when she glanced into the potted poinsettia. There in the potting soil and red holiday foil were Pap Pap’s teeth.

It truly was a Merry Christmas for him.

Most people only ask for “their two front teeth…their two front teeth.”
A little luck of the Irish for Pap-pap.
