in Friday Fragments, I Am So Frustrated I Could Scream, Life with boys, potty training
*The Closet Fiasco took 3 hours to fix. I ended up bagging 4 large stacks of clothes/shoes to go to good will, putting up all of my winter clothes, and separating regular clothes from maternity items. Then, BP (my hero!) fixed the rod and hung my clothes back up. I actually can breathe again.
*Today is last day of school. I now plan on being submerged in water for the months of June, July and August.
*Frick graduated from 3K on Tuesday. Our camera creates a vacuum, so I was waiting on friends to upload the photos on Facebook in order to post them. The Graduation post below shows my sweet baby boy at his first graduation. Scary thing is that I am going to blink and he will be graduating from high school.
*Frack is potty trained! Hallelujah. (edit to add: Or so I thought…I wrote this yesterday before Frack decided he would “leave his mark” with the babysitter on the last day he was with her. Lots of “accidents” at/on her house. Told ya he was a stubborn dude.)

Frick’s first soccer game is tomorrow morning.
We may have a rain out.
Or a mud slide.

Frack is perfecting his potty training.
He pooped on the potty the other morning.
Unfortunately for all parties involved,
it was an isolated incident.

On the phone with Nini:
Nini: Frick, how old do you have to be to drink coffee?
Frick: Um….35.
Nini: Ok. How old do you have to be to drink wine?
Frick: Oh. 5 or 6.
I have yet to figure out why Nini was asking these questions to our 4 year old. Gotta love Nini. :)

My thoughts:
*Is it just me or is Valentine’s Day one of the most overrated holidays around? Is it an excuse to eat chocolate? I don’t need an excuse.
*Why do we pass out little Valentine cards when we only throw them away? Isn’t that a waste of money?
*Why is it every time I buy Frick a pair of pants, he puts a whole in them? Is it cool to wear patches? Why do I care if my 4 year old looks cool?

Frack had his three year old checkup yesterday. He is in the 90% in weight and 25% in height. He has been in those percentiles since birth at every.single.appointment. At least he is consistent.

in Friday Fragments, Tales from Teaching
A few months ago, I entertained the children with a record player.
This week, I pulled out the cassette player.
It’s been a long time since I used one of those dinosaurs.
Rewinding the tape is quite a lengthy process.
We waited.
And waited.
And waited.
*crickets chirping*
And then a little boy student piped up and said,
“Is it EVER going to play, Mrs. Teacher?“
These kids have never seen a cassette tape before. They were the same ones who thought the record was a giant CD. That’s what I am there for…to educate them on the classics.

My fellow early childhood teachers will appreciate this:
Lately I have been assigning the boys ‘centers’ in which to play. This is what happens when you bring your work home.
Actually, it is the only thing maintaining my sanity these days.

Overheard:
Frick: Frack, I am ig-a-noring you.

I think I am the luckiest person in the world.
I have been called for jury duty again.
I was summoned in:
1998 during my first year of teaching (excused)
2000 during our wedding week (excused)
2002 during state mandated testing (a certified teacher must give these tests–excused)
2004 during my pregnancy with Frick (not picked for panel)
2005 (picked for panel)
2006 during the week of my due date with Frack (excused)
2007 (Federal Grand Jury–picked for panel)
and now
Feb. 2009
That’s 8 times in roughly 15 years. It’s all randomly done, so you can see that I must REALLY be lucky.
**Running out the door to the gas station to get my lotto ticket.**

As last week’s Friday Fragments hit the internet, I hit the bottom of a slide at Monkey Joe’s.
I sprained my ankle, which made it quite the ‘cankle’.
Huh? What’s a cankle you say?
Cankles are an obese or otherwise swollen ankle that blends into
the calf without clear demarcation according to Wiktionary.
The last time I had cankles, I was very pregnant with Frick.
Not a pretty sight.
As the days pass, the swelling decreases and the exquisite purple, black, and blue color combination emerges.
No picture…I will spare you.
You’re welcome.

Frack has FINALLY started to pee on the potty. For Pete’s sake, the boy will be three next month. We have been putting him on the potty for months now, to no avail.
Turns out he prefers to pee at school. Whodda thought??
Each time I take him to the potty, I still have a certain mental picture.
To refresh your memory…
One night during bath time, Frack stood up, pointed to the toilet, and said, “I pee…I pee Mama!”
I got him out and put him on the toilet.
I am probably the ONLY person in the whole world who puts her boys backwards on the toilet when training. By doing so, they have the lid to hold on to. I digress….
Frack was wet, straight from the tub. I should have dried him.
He slipped and his sweet bottom fell into the toilet!
His arms and legs were up at his head!
After getting over the shock and then realizing he was Ok, I doubled over with laughter. He joined in with me.
Now I am sure you understand why I think of this every time he goes to the bathroom.

Happy New Year!
BP and I partied like rock stars with some old friends.
We ate.
We drank.
We were merry.
Just as Dave Matthews sang “Eat, drink, and be merry.”
Do you know the song???

Clemson lost to Nebraska.
Boo.
Hiss.
But what a great game it was to watch!
Congrats to my blog friend, Jenny, who pulls for Nebraska.

The Name That Tune post was quite popular…all but one song was identified.
19. I’ve been searching a long time for someone exactly like you. I’ve been traveling all around the world, waiting for you to come through. (title) makes it all worth while. (title) keeps me satisfied. someone exactly like you.
This song is Someone Like You, by Van Morrison.
One of my favorite songs by one of my very favorite singers.

We had a wonderful Christmas. Frick and Frack woke at 7:15am. Pretty good for a couple of farmers, huh?
(BP and I refer to Frick and Frack as The Farmers because they are up with the sun. EVERYDAY.)
The joy and bliss on the faces of my TRUE believers will forever be etched in my mind!

Frick received a Woody doll from Toy Story. Woody has been everywhere with us already.

**SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT!!**

This has to be THE.BEST.GIFT.EVER.
It’s called a PlasmaCar.
As you can see, even adults can ride it. It holds up to 300lbs. It’s been pretty nasty here (rain, very humid, and 70 degrees). We would have already been racing them outside. Alas, the garage has been perfect for our races.
Nini and Pops….err….Mr. C hooked us up with two.

It is absolutely baffling to me how quickly Christmas comes and goes. Our local radio station plays Christmas music 24/7 from early November until Christmas Day. Then they just STOP.
Cold turkey.
It is such a let down.

Now I must get ready for NYE.
We actually have plans this year.

Apparently people Google ‘Screaming Santa Pictures’ and wind up at …life’s about a dream. This is what they get.
I’ll be updating that post tomorrow with this year’s installment.

Frick was brave enough to sing in his Christmas program.
He did a great job singing the Alvin and the Chipmunks song, Christmas, Christmas Time is Near
with his hands in his pockets.

Our Christmas letter for this year was sent via the internets instead of USPS.
And I was TOTALLY serious when I suggested that someone buy the other house we own. It’s right across the street from our house.
Which means you would have spiffy neighbors.

It’s Christmas break!
No school until January 5th!
Of course, that also means no pay check.
I guess public school had a few perks.

Mrs. 4444, who does this whole Friday Fragment thing, linked to me today.
She, and 132 other people who took the time to comment, loved Frick’s facial expressions as he watched Santa roll by in downtown, Smalltown, South Eastern USA’s Christmas parade.
Thanks, Mrs. 4444!!

I was thinking about a conversation my mom recorded in my baby book. (i.e.–that thing that people used to record all of their children’s memories…with paper pages, a cover, etc.–as opposed to a blog.)
A little background…Nini (my mom) used to work for a pro life group. She was constantly on the phone talking with associates about pregnancy. We were always underfoot and apparently listening to every word she said.
Scene 1: Mandy, age 18 months, and Uncle B, age 2 and a half, in the bathtub.
Uncle B: Mom, Mandy’s pregnant.
Nini: Oh really? How do you know?
Uncle B: Because she told me.
Nini: Oh, she did?
Uncle B: Yeah, she did.
Nini: What did she say?
Uncle B: Oh, she’s not talking about it.

Frick sings a solo during his Christmas program on Tuesday.
During practice, he has been rocking back and forth with his hands in his pockets while he sings that Christmas song from Alvin and the Chipmunks.
I will be posting video of this.
Oh yeah.

The Roomba post (Welcome Rosie) has generated a lot of questions.
To clarify:
*Yes, I still love my Roomba.
*I use her at least 3 times a week in all rooms of the house (except the room where the dog sleeps because there is a vast amount of hair in there.
*Yes, she transistions easily from hardwood floor to carpet.
*She only gets stuck under one chair that sits rather low.
*My children love her and beg to start her everyday.
*My dog could care less about her running in the house.
*You do have to clean it out in order to maintain proper function.
*No, we did not pay full price for her. My husband subscribes to the feed of Woot.com. This site has a techy special of the day. Rosie was the special one day.
So that brings my Shameless Plugs to 3:
Pancake Puffs (As seen on TV!)
Neti Pot/SinuRinse (A little nose irrigation)
